An underdeveloped lower jaw, with malocclusion or an overbite requires a combination of orthodontia and major maxillofacial surgery to move the entire jawbone forward to correct the imbalance. However, often the teeth are in normal alignment yet the chin itself is underdeveloped. In such an instance, major surgery is not necessary. Placement of a small prosthetic implant either through an incision beneath the chin or one inside the mouth, provides a simple yet highly effective correction of this problem.
