Chemical Peels

CHEMICAL PEELS IN NEW YORK, NY

Chemical Peels are done by placing dilute acids on the face which remove the outer, dead layer of skin  cells, rejuvenating and cleansing the area. Skin Spas use very mild Chemical Peels as part of a facial. I utilize stronger compounds that penetrate deeper into the skin, to treat fine line wrinkles and certain skin irregularities. I sometimes combine Chemical Peels with certain surgical procedures, like lower eyelid Blepharoplasty to smooth skin to maximize results.

Chemical Peels are just another weapon in my armamentarium used to combat the effects of facial aging. I have been performing Chemical Peels in NYC for over 20 years, and I possess the experience and knowledge to offer the best result possible.

TCA CHEMICAL PEELS

TCA is a non-toxic chemical (trichloracetic acid), which has been used to perform Skin Peels for over 20 years. It is a relative of vinegar (acetic acid.) When TCA is applied to the skin, it causes the top layers of cells to dry up and peel off over a period of several days to one week. When the old skin is peeled off, it exposes a new layer of undamaged skin, which has a smoother texture and more even color. TCA peels can be done at different depths from shallow to deep, making it a versatile option.

Lighter TCA peels are usually done in a series of 2 or 3 for best results. This is similar to other light peels that usually involve hydroxy acids such as glycolic, salicylic, or a mixture of other hydroxy acids. Medium depth TCA peels are usually done once or twice a year and do require some downtime – usually about a week – when the peeling is obvious.

CHEMICAL PEELS CONSULTATION

The consultation process, (plan to spend at least one hour) includes an in-depth discussion about your desires with regard to which areas of the face you desire treatment with Chemical Peel. It is the surgeon’s task to explain all aspects of the procedure, the pros and cons, and most importantly, the concept of realistic expectations with regard to your result.

CANDIDATES FOR CHEMICAL PEELS

If you have concerns about wrinkles or lines on your face, large pores, skin irregularities, or brown spots on your hands or face, then Chemical Peel may be for you. This procedure can enhance your appearance and improve overall self-confidence and self-esteem. The best candidates for Chemical Peels are healthy individuals, with fairer skin types who are realistic about what the treatment can afford after a complete consultation.

THE CHEMICAL PEEL TREATMENT

I utilize nerve blocks or topical anesthetics to maximize comfort level during Chemical Peel procedures. There is minimal swelling and bruising immediately after the treatment, and sometimes the skin turns reddish for a short period. Deeper wrinkles and lines require stronger concentration, leaving treated skin areas crusty. Recovery time depends on the concentration and depth of the compound used. Recovery periods, including return to work, range from 1-3 days for most procedures. Intense physical activity should be avoided for 12-24 hours after the treatment.

Some Chemical Peels require more than one session to obtain maximal results. Outcome longevity varies and is influenced by various factors including skin care, smoking and sun exposure.

Chemical Peels are performed in my office located on the Upper East Side in NYC. You will be given a follow-up appointment with me in 7-10 days. Come for a consult anytime to check out the options regarding Chemical Peels, and the advantages they may offer you!

As soon as you finish peeling you will see results. Your skin should continue to improve for
30-60 days as long as you are protected from the sun.

WHAT DOES A TCA CHEMICAL PEEL FEEL LIKE? IS IT PAINFUL?

There is some stinging and a sensation of heat while the TCA Chemical Peel solution is active.
