Advancing age brings the loss of skin elasticity and the effects of gravity cause the eyebrows to descend, along with the facial skin. This can convey an unattractive angry or scowling facial appearance. Patients complain about comments from friends and family about being mad or in bad mood, when nothing is wrong! Frequently, excess upper eyelid skin is the result of a descended or sagging brow. If this condition goes unrecognized and an upper eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) is performed without addressing the descended brow, the results will suffer.
The Brow Lift surgery, by raising the eyebrows, returns excess upper eyelid skin and eyebrows to their normal position giving a youthful appearance to the forehead and eye regions. Brow Lift surgery also addresses wrinkling in the forehead and inner eyebrow areas. These wrinkles are caused by the action of the facial muscles during expressions such as frowning. Repeated expression over years and years leads to creasing of the skin and wrinkling.
During Brow Lift surgery, these small muscles are removed effectively and permanently removing the wrinkles caused by them. I have been performing Brow Lift surgery in NYC for over 20 years and have the ability and experience to offer the best possible result for you.
Brow Lift Consultation
The consultation process, (plan to spend at least one hour) includes an in-depth discussion about your desires with regard to result and recovery from Brow Lift surgery. It is the surgeon’s task to explain all aspects of the operation, the pros and cons, and most importantly, the concept of realistic expectations with regard to your postoperative result.
Candidates for Brow Lift Surgery
If you have concerns about drooping brow position, and tired of hearing comments about looking angry, then Brow Lift surgery may be for you. This type of surgery can enhance your appearance and improve overall self-confidence and self-esteem. The best candidates for Brow Lift surgery are healthy individuals who are realistic about what the surgery can afford after a complete consultation. Scarring is usually not an issue because of the scar location within the scalp and I close the skin with great care and offer advice and support regarding scar care after surgery.
The Brow Lift Procedure
Brow Lift surgery may be performed using various techniques including the open technique through an incision over the top of the head, the endoscopic technique using a small telescope like instrument through small scalp incisions, and limited access (Mini-Brow Lift) open techniques using small temporal scalp incisions or upper eyelid incisions.
I am adept at all of these techniques, and tailor the operation to the needs of each particular patient.
Sometimes I combine Blepharoplasty with a Mini-Brow Lift, to address and enhance the entire upper facial region. This involves a small incision within the scalp above the lateral brow region, allowing me to gently lift the lateral eyebrow region and alleviate the heaviness contributing to the condition.
Brow Lift surgery is performed in my state of the art, fully certified operative suite in my office located on the Upper East Side in New York City. Depending on the procedure, I utilize either general anesthesia, or local anesthesia with sedation, administered by one of our experienced, board certified anesthesiologists.
Brow Lift Surgery Recovery
Recovery after surgery takes 1-2 hours, with my RN at your side at all times. For your safety, I require that a friend, family member or private duty nurse accompany you home and spend at least one night with you. You will be given a follow-up appointment with me in 1-3 days. All stitches are removed within 7 days.
Most of my patients return to work within 5-7 days postoperatively, and pain after surgery is well controlled with pain medication. My staff and I will counsel you regarding all aspects of scar care to achieve the best possible, least noticeable scars. I have a great deal of experience with all aspects of Brow Lift surgery, and comfortably possess the required expertise to allow me to achieve the best possible results for you.
Brow Lift surgery can make you look younger and fresher and also enhances your self-confidence.
Brow Lift FAQs
How long will results last from my Brow Lift surgery?
One of the perks of Brow Lift surgery is that results last a long time because once lifted, the brow tends to maintain its position. Skin care maintenance, sun overexposure and the aging process does affect longevity.
What is the recovery process like after Brow Lift surgery?
Most of my patients are out and about 48 hours after Brow Lift surgery. Bruising and swelling is normal, lasts 1-2 weeks, but is easily hidden with sunglasses or makeup.
Will everybody know I have had Brow Lift surgery?
The nice thing about Brow Lift surgery is that nobody knows for sure! While results can be dramatic, people usually assume that you have just returned from a wonderful vacation and look rested, or think perhaps you lost a little weight. I never use aggressive techniques that leave patients with that horrid constant look of surprise.
If I come to you for an eyelid tuck, why are you trying to talk me into a Mini-Brow Lift also?
Many patients seeking Eyelid Rejuvenation surgery do not realize that their drooping lateral eyebrows are contributing to the appearance of more heavy, redundant skin of the upper eyelids. To demonstrate my point, in front of a mirror, I gently raise the lateral eyebrow ever so slightly, which also lifts some of the redundant skin of the upper eyelids present, decreasing the amount needed to be excised surgically. It provides a more natural look, and increases the longevity of the result.
Isn’t there some other, better non-surgical procedure that works as well as Eyelid Rejuvenation surgery?
I always offer Botox treatment prior to Brow Lift Surgery, because when done properly, a nice gentle lift can be accomplished with just Botox. Some patients prefer that, while others prefer the surgery, as Botox must be repeated every 4-6 months.
