BOTOX® INJECTABLE IN NEW YORK, NY
WHAT IS BOTOX®
BOTOX ® cosmetic, or botulinum toxin, is a game changing procedure being performed today to reduce wrinkles around the forehead, eyes, and neck region. BOTOX® cosmetic is basically a medicine which paralyzes small muscles that cause wrinkles. When that muscle becomes paralyzed, the wrinkles disappear.
The thought of paralysis of a muscle is quite frightening but this procedure has been used successfully by eye doctors for many years and over the last several years in plastic surgery with minimal to no complications. When used in the forehead and mid-eye brow region, lines are literally erased when the area is treated. Fine lines around the eyes and “crows feet” may also be treated with this modality. Overactive muscle in the neck which can cause banding in the neck has also been treated successfully with BOTOX® cosmetic injections. I have been performing Botox injections in New York for wrinkle eradication since it was approved by the FDA in 2002.
A formal appointment is required to allow enough time during your visit to be treated, if you so desire. The consultation process, (plan to spend at least one hour if you desire treatment after consult) includes an in-depth discussion about your desires with regard to which areas of the face you desire treatment with Botox injections. It is the surgeon’s task to explain all aspects of the procedure, the pros and cons, and most importantly, the concept of realistic expectations with regard to your result.
CANDIDATES FOR BOTOX®
If you have concerns about wrinkles on your face or neck, Botox treatment may be for you. This procedure can enhance your appearance and improve overall self-confidence and self-esteem. The best candidates for Botox Injections are healthy individuals who are realistic about what the treatment can afford after a complete consultation.
THE BOTOX® TREATMENT IN NEW YORK CITY
I utilize nerve blocks or topical anesthetics to maximize comfort level during Botox Injection. To achieve the best results possible, I perform all injections myself, not nurses or surgical assistants! There is minimal swelling and bruising immediately after the treatment, but I apply ice packs immediately and it usually subsides within the hour. Most people return to work the same day and even have the procedure during their lunch hour. Intense physical activity should be avoided 12-24 hours after the procedure. BOTOX® is not permanent, and must be repeated every three to six months. Studies have shown, however, that after repeated treatments, many times the muscle becomes extremely weak and the time between injections can increase.
Complications that arise from this can include weakness or ptosis of the eyebrow or eyelid; however, this can be treated with eye drops and is self-limiting as this medicine is not permanent. Botox Injections are performed in my office located on the Upper East Side in New York. You will be given a follow-up appointment with me in 7-10 days, and minor touch-up, if needed, may be done then.
BOTOX® cosmetic treatment in the above described areas has an extremely high satisfaction rate, and is an excellent treatment for these types of wrinkles. BOTOX® is a registered trademark of Allergan, Inc.

HOW MUCH MATERIAL WILL I NEED FOR MY BOTOX TREATMENT?
It depends on how many areas you treat. Some doctors charge by the area, others by how many “units” of Botox is used. One area, like the “11” lines on the forehead between the eyes usually requires 20 units, while the entire forehead needs more to get optimal results. Cost is linked to the number of units needed to treat each particular face.
WHEN CAN I RETURN TO WORK OR A NIGHT OUT AFTER BOTOX TREATMENT?
There is little pain and discomfort after Botox treatment, but sometimes minor bruising. I provide a small ice pack right after treating my Botox patients, which they take with them. This allows them to return to work that day, or meet friends for dinner that evening, if they so desire.
WHY DOES THE COST OF BOTOX VARY SO MUCH FROM DOCTOR TO DOCTOR?
Beware of cheap Botox treatment prices! Each bottle of Botox must be re-constituted from a powder by adding normal saline (salt water) to allow injection. The manufacturer recommends using 2.5 cc of water for each vial of Botox to get the best results. That amount provides 100 units of Botox per vial, and enough to treat roughly 4 regions of the face. Places that offer cheaper Botox dilute the concentration by as much as 2 or 3 times, allowing to treat more areas with the bottle, and thus charge less. The key is that diluted Botox does not work as well or last as long as Botox that is properly diluted! My mother used to say “You get what you pay for!”
HOW LONG WILL MY RESULTS LAST AFTER BOTOX TREATMENT?

ALL TYPES OF DOCTORS SEEM TO BE INJECTING BOTOX, WHO SHOULD I GO TO GET THE BEST RESULTS?
I am, of course biased with this regard, but I truly believe that Board Certified Plastic Surgeons should administer Botox. We are highly trained in facial anatomy and aesthetics of the face, and we get the most consistent results. Some board certified cosmetic dermatologists also are reliable.
