Brazilian Butt Lift or BBL, is also called Fat Transfer to the buttocks. The technique was designed to add volume to the buttocks using the patients’ own fat to lift and shape them in a pleasing fashion. Liposuction of the abdomen, flanks, upper and lower back, and sometimes extremities harvests the fat, which is treated and then grafted to the buttocks. The patient’s body is contoured nicely by removing fat from places not wanted and then used to lift and shape the buttocks. The best candidates for BBL are generally patients who are in good physical health with realistic expectations. Liposuction should not be considered a diet tool. I have been performing BBL Surgery for over 10 years in NYC, and I utilize experience, deft surgical skill and technique to optimize your results from BBL Surgery.
The consultation process (plan to spend at least one hour), includes an in-depth discussion about your desires with regard to your body shape and contour after BBL Surgery. It is the surgeon’s task to explain all aspects of the operation, the pros and cons, and most importantly, the concept of realistic expectations with regard to your postoperative result. I prefer to meet a second time with each patient prior to surgery to assure complete understanding of your desires from Fat Transfer Surgery (BBL).
If you have concerns about fatty deposits and bulges around your abdomen, back, flanks or extremities, and you desire a larger, shapelier and perkier butt, then Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery is an excellent option for you. This type of surgery can enhance your youthful appearance and improve your overall self confidence and self esteem. The best candidates for BBL Surgery are healthy individuals who are realistic about what the surgery can afford after a complete consultation. BBL Surgery can be performed for various body types. The best results are usually achieved in patients who have ample fat elsewhere to graft to the buttocks. Scarring is minimal because the cannulas I use are small and I close the skin with great care and offer advice and support regarding scar care after surgery. I place the scars in locations easily camouflaged or hidden by clothing.
The basic technique used for BBL Surgery usually involves first meticulously marking those areas on your body to be treated. Then a salt water solution containing an anesthetic and a medicine that decreases bleeding and bruising called epinephrine is injected into those areas. Fat is then removed from the abdomen and flanks with small cannulas. While you are asleep under general anesthesia, my surgical team then turns you over on the OR table to complete the operation. Liposuction of the upper and lower back, and legs if needed, is performed to harvest more fat and contour your body. The sterile fat is then washed and treated with an antibiotic solution and placed in syringes for transfer. Equal amounts of fat is then injected into your buttocks, increasing girth and lifting and shaping them.
After surgery you will be discharged with an elastic garment to allow faster decrease of swelling and encourage skin contraction and maintain the new shape of your buttocks. I prefer that these garments be worn for at least 4-6 weeks after surgery. No pressure can be applied to the buttocks for 2 weeks after surgery to allow the grafted fat to “take” or be incorporated within your own body. This means that you must sleep on your stomach and sit with care for that 2 week period.
The BBL Surgery is performed in my state of the art, fully certified operative suite located on the Upper East Side in NYC. Depending on the procedure, I utilize general anesthesia for this surgery, administered by one of our experienced, board certified anesthesiologists. Recovery after surgery takes 1-2 hours, with my RN at your side at all times. For your safety, I require that a friend, family member or private duty nurse accompany you home and spend at least one night with you. You will be given a followup appointment with me in 1-3 days.
Most of my patients return to work within 7-14 days postoperatively, and pain after surgery is well controlled with pain medication. My staff and I will counsel you regarding all aspects of scar care to achieve the best possible, least noticeable scars.
I have a great deal of experience with all aspects of BBL Surgery, and comfortably possess the required expertise to allow me to achieve the best possible results for you. If you have ample areas of fat on your body and desire a larger and perkier butt, you may be a candidate for BBL Surgery. Give me a call!
