Suction assisted Lipectomy or Liposuction is a technique used to aspirate or remove fatty deposits from virtually any area of the body. The most frequently involved areas include the chin, neck, cheeks, upper arms, breasts, back, abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs and knees and ankles. It is aimed at removal of focal areas of fatty deposition which are unresponsive to dieting and exercise. The best candidates for liposuction are generally patients who are in good physical health with realistic expectations. Liposuction should not be considered a diet tool.
I have been performing Liposuction Surgery for over 20 year in NYC, and I utilize experience, deft surgical skill and technique to optimize your results from Liposuction Surgery.
Liposuction ConsultationThe consultation process (plan to spend at least one hour), includes an in-depth discussion about your desires with regard to your body shape and contour after Liposuction Surgery. It is the surgeon’s task to explain all aspects of the operation, the pros and cons, and most importantly, the concept of realistic expectations with regard to your postoperative result. I prefer to meet a second time with each patient prior to surgery to assure complete understanding of your desires from Liposuction Surgery.
Candidates for Liposuction Surgery
If you have concerns about fatty deposits and bulges around your abdominal, back, neck, buttock or extremity regions, or your diet and exercise regimen helped you lose weight and tone your body everywhere but certain troublesome areas, then Liposuction Surgery is an excellent option for you. This type of surgery can enhance your youthful appearance and improve your overall self-confidence and self-esteem. The best candidates for Liposuction Surgery are healthy individuals who are realistic about what the surgery can afford after a complete consultation. Liposuction Surgery can be performed for various body types.
The Liposuction Procedure
The best results are usually achieved in patients who have plateaued to an ideal weight after diet and exercise. Scarring is minimal because the cannulas I use are small and I close the skin with great care and offer advice and support regarding scar care after surgery. I place the scars in locations easily camouflaged or hidden by clothing.
The basic technique used for Liposuction Surgery usually involves first meticulously marking those areas on your body to be treated. Then a salt water solution containing an anesthetic and a medicine that decreases bleeding and bruising called epinephrine is injected into those areas. Fat is then removed from those areas with small cannulas. Another technique, Micro-liposuction is an effective superficial suctioning technique in which I use very small cannulas. This allows removal of fat closer to the skin in specific areas without causing skin irregularities or dents.
The Liposuction Surgery is performed in my state of the art, fully certified operative suite in my office located on the Upper East Side in NYC. Depending on the procedure, I utilize either general anesthesia, or local anesthesia with sedation, administered by one of our experienced, board certified anesthesiologists. Recovery after surgery takes 1-2 hours, with my RN at your side at all times. For your safety, I require that a friend, family member or private duty nurse accompany you home and spend at least one night with you. You will be given a followup appointment with me in 1-3 days.
ULTRASONIC LIPOSUCTION (UAL)
Ultrasonic liposuction can be an effective tool for liposuction/body contour surgery in certain parts of the body. This technology uses sonic (sound) energy to emulsify or melt fat cells. After the fat cells are emulsified, they are evacuated with gentle vacuum suction. Vital structures such as blood vessels are selectively spared from injury by the ultrasound energy. This results in a less traumatic procedure with lower blood loss. It is most effective in the back and chest areas(Gynecomastia), because those regions have fat mingled with fibrous bands, which can be resistant to traditional liposuction.
Recovery from Liposuction Surgery
After surgery you will be discharged with an elastic garment to allow faster decrease of swelling and encourage skin contraction. I prefer that these garments be worn for at least 2 weeks after surgery, and then can be replaces with Spanks for 2 weeks.
Other devices making headlines using low power laser energy(Laser-Lipo or Smart Lipo) or jet stream water energy are marketed by manufacturers as being better and more effective than traditional liposuction because they cause less bruising and swelling and cause skin to contract faster. Multiple scientific studies have failed to confirm those claims, and found no difference in postoperative results when compared to traditional liposuction! Simply stated, the most important part of your surgical experience is your choice of the surgeon…not the device!
Most of my patients return to work within 4-7 days postoperatively, and pain after surgery is well controlled with pain medication. My staff and I will counsel you regarding all aspects of scar care to achieve the best possible, least noticeable scars.
I have a great deal of experience with all aspects of Liposuction Surgery, and comfortably possess the required expertise to allow me to achieve the best possible results for you. If you have well-defined areas of fat on your body and cannot lose them with diet and exercise, you may be a candidate for Liposuction Surgery. Give me a call!
