Dermal Fillers are products designed to restore lost volume in the skin and smooth wrinkles and folds by injecting them just under the skin. The advantage is their ease of introduction, availability and minimal down time. Products vary with regard to their formulation and longevity.
Some are organic, which means that it is something that already exists in the human body, or others that are man-made. To qualify as an Expert Injector, the physician must know and understand all properties of Dermal Fillers, how they work, for how long, and what Dermal Filler is best for each individual’s needs. I have been providing Dermal Fillers to my patients for over 20 years in NYC, and as a qualified Expert Injector, I am able to evaluate your Dermal Filler needs and provide the best possible solutions to rejuvenate your face in a natural and elegant style. All Dermal Filler Procedures are performed by me and me alone, not by assistants or nurses.
Areas of the face treated by Dermal Fillers:
- Deep Wrinkles or Lines of the Forehead
- Hollow Regions Below Eyes (Tear Troughs)
- Nasal Defects on Bridge of Nose
- Smile Lines of the mid-cheeks (Nasolabial Folds)
- Sunken Cheekbones
- Hollow Cheeks
- Weakened Jaw Line
- Weak Chin
Dermal Filler Options
Years of experience and dedication have lead me to a selection of Dermal Fillers that have provided my patients with safe, reliable results. My preference is to use Dermal Fillers that have a solid clinical history of consistent success with minimal side effects.
Hyaluronic Acid is an organic, naturally occurring sugar found in the human body. Therefore it offers the advantage of minimal allergic reactions. While there are several Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Filler products available, my preference for lines and wrinkles of the face is Juvedern. Juvederm™ is a smooth consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. Juvéderm™ injectable gel is injected under the skin to instantly restore your skin’s volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, like your “smile lines” or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds, the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth).
Juvederm options include the following:
- JUVÉDERM® VOLIFT® with lidocaine for smile lines
- JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA® with lidocaine for lip enhancement
- JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA® with lidocaine for facial volume enhancement/rejuvenation
- JUVÉDERM® ULTRA™ and ULTRA PLUS™ XC with lidocaine for mouth and nose area
The addition of lidocaine in all of these JUVÉDERM® products means that you are more comfortable during and after your treatment. Juvederm Voluma is a fairly new and exciting product that has been nicknamed, “The Liquid Facelift“, providing volume to the cheekbone and mid-face region, lifting that portion of the face.
Radiesse® is an approved, next-generation dermal filler that is setting a new standard for the correction of deeper facial lines and wrinkles such as nasolabial folds. Made of calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel, Radiesse is injected into the skin through a simple and minimally invasive procedure giving you immediate, visible improvement of folds and wrinkles, and providing long-lasting and beautiful results.
Dermal Filler Consultation
A formal appointment is required to allow enough time during your visit to be treated, if you so desire. The consultation process, (plan to spend at least one hour if you desire treatment after consult) includes an in-depth discussion about your desires with regard to which areas of the face you desire treatment with Dermal Fillers. It is the surgeon’s task to explain all aspects of the procedure, the pros and cons, and most importantly, the concept of realistic expectations with regard to your result.
If you have concerns about wrinkles or lines on your face or lost facial volume, causing an unappealing gaunt appearance, Dermal Fillers may be for you. This procedure can enhance your appearance and improve overall self-confidence and self-esteem. The best candidates for Dermal Fillers are healthy individuals, who are not prone to allergic reactions and who are realistic about what the treatment can afford after a complete consultation.
Dermal Fillers Treatment
I utilize nerve blocks or topical anesthetics to maximize comfort level during Dermal Filler Injection Procedures. There is minimal swelling and bruising immediately after the treatment, but I apply ice packs immediately and it usually subsides within the hour. Most people return to work the same day and even have the procedure during their lunch hour. Intense physical activity should be avoided 12 hours after the procedure. Most Dermal Fillers are not permanent, and must be repeated every six to nine months. Voluma and Radiesse last longer, up to 2 years. JUVÉDERM® side effects are mild or moderate in nature, and last 7 days or less. The most common side effects include temporary injection-site reactions such as: redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration.
Dermal Filler Injections are performed in my office located on the Upper East Side in NYC. You will be given a follow-up appointment with me in 7-10 days, and minor touch-up, if needed, may be done then.
Dermal Filler FAQs
How much material will I need for my Dermal Filler treatment?
That depends on the areas treated, the depth of the wrinkles or lines to be treated and amount of volume needed to be replaced in areas of the face. I try to temper patient desires and expectations, amount of filler needed to accomplish goals, and individual patient budget to obtain the best result possible.
When can I return to work or a night out after Dermal Filler treatment?
There is little pain and discomfort after Dermal Filler treatment, but sometimes minor bruising. I provide a small ice pack right after treating my Dermal Filler patients, which they take with them. This allows them to return to work that day, or out to dinner that evening, if they so desire.
Can I be treated with Dermal Fillers and Botox simultaneously?
Yes, I often treat my patients with a combination treatment program. These include Dermal Fillers for the smile lines and Botox for the forehead wrinkles, or other combinations.
How long will my results last after Dermal Filler Treatment?
Dermal Fillers are not permanent, and must be repeated to maintain optimal results. Juvederm Ultra Plus, when maximal treatment is accomplished, lasts 6-9 months. Voluma and Radiesse may last up to 2 years, depending on location and indication.
All types of doctors seem to be injecting Dermal Fillers, who should I go to get the best results?
I am, of course biased with this regard, but I truly believe that Board Certified Plastic Surgeons should administer Dermal Fillers. We are highly trained in facial anatomy and aesthetics of the face, and we get the most consistent results. Some board certified cosmetic dermatologists also are reliable.
